OUR SAVIOUR WITH GOLDEN HAIR

Our Saviour with Golden HairFour icons placed in the showcases in front of the southern iconostasis come from the cities of Northeastern Russia — Vladimir, Suzdal, and Rostov. One of them, called The Saviour with the Golden Hair, dates back to the beginning of the 13th century. The image of the Saviour creates an impression of spiritual selectness and inner aristocratism. The adornment of the Saviour's clothes, background and cross behind His head with precious gold plaques, and his hair, dressed in golden strands, convey a feeling of the divine light emitted by the Saviour. That corresponds to the inscriptions on the background of the icon — KING OF GLORY, and the fields – I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD... The colouristic combinations of cool pink, emerald green, blue, and white with the gold and light ochre of the image and the entire graphic structure of the icon represent the court culture of the Grand Princely centres in pre-Mongolian Russia.
